It's almost summer time here in Aus, which means a nice fake tan is almost mandatory especially wearing shorts and showing more skin. While we choose to fake it and not sun bake, it's important to understand the ingredients in your self tanner, after all the skin is our largest order. We spend so much time maintaining the face but the whole body is just as important in our eyes. Lets talk about the natural products in self tanners and why they matter for your skin overall health.
Most of us mums, know how important it is to care for sensitive skin - after all, skin can change after having kids and obviously as we age gracefully. Natural ingredients and even naturally derived ingredients are often far gentler on our skin than synthetic counterparts. Natural plant-based ingredients and skincare like ingredients are much less likely to cause irritation, most having a soothing, moisturising, anti-oxidant or healing effects.
For example, ingredients like aloe vera and chamomile, commonly found in natural self tanning products, like our GlowOff Tan Remover mousse and our GlowBronze self tan mousse. These natural ingredients soothe and hydrate while giving a gorgeous self tan bronzed result. So instead of worrying about irritation, tight skin or break outs, you can enjoy being beautifully bronzed without the stress.
Many self tanners on the shelves today can be packed with cheaper filler ingredients and most conventional self tanning mousses are just tanners with little to no extra skincare benefits and also lacking natural ingredients. These ingredients can be harsher on the skin and can also upset the skin barrier. I’m personally tanning years and while my skin could handle the cheaper tans back in the day I literally think I would turn to stone if I applied them today. I remember the smells and that feeling of tightness - especially when we tanned out faces with body self tanners - did you do that too?
Natural ingredients, on the other hand are rich in vitamins and antioxidants that really nourish and protect. Once ingredient you’ll see in almost every product of ours is KAKADU PLUM, this Aussie BoTANical ingredient is a powerhouse of brightening and promoting a radiant complexion. Located and sourced locally in Aus, Kakadu plum has one of the worlds richest source of collagen-boosting Vitamin C, its natures glow-to smooth glowing skin so this ingredient is a must for us! Another natural ingredient excluded from more store bought self tan mousses is Glycerin, this is another skincare ingredient used in so many products for hydration and preventing moisture-loss. THis ingredient helps shield the skin from environmental stressors, makes your skin feel super soft and supple and fortifies and strengthens the skin moisture barrier. Go now and check your current self tan mousse - is there Glycerin? This was another must for us, ensuring your skin looks as smooth as it feels and more important, less cracking of the skin when it’s ultra hydrated and your tan WILL last longer!
Like many of us today, we are conscious of the products we consume, are mindful of packaging and how the products itself can affect the planet including our waterways and oceans at large. Natural ingredients in self tanning products generally more sustainable to source and produce, meaning fewer toxic ingredients leach to soil and water. Choose a self tanner for starters is one small way to help reduce our personal environmental footprint white achieving a golden self tan.
Opting for natural self tanning products means you're not only caring for yourself but making more eco-conscious choices resulting in a healthier planet too. Many natural brands, including GlowDry commit to sustainable practices, packaging and ingredients so you can genuinely feel good about your beauty routine!
In all honestly, the last thing we want is a streaky tan that's orange and patchy. Natural ingredients are known to provide a more even sun-kissed self tan that looks healthy and more authentic. BoTANical extracts and plant based tanning actives blend seamlessly on the skin, results in a more muted, softer, natural-looking tan compared to a more orange toned colour from cheaper tanners. While we have all had them, if your tanning as long as us we have, you can now forget the days of overly dark patches and yellow orange undertones!
Our Tan Mousse contains 2 natural self tanning actives. DHA, the most highly used tanning agent and Erythrolose. Dihydroxyacetone works much faster than Erythrolose but both work great together to develop into a longer last tan and counteracts any orange tones. The DHA we have selected is ECO-cert approved and is 100% natural derived from sugar cane and this method of processing from sugar to tanning agent is most sustainable on the ingredient market today! Only the best natural ingredients for us please! Erythrolose on the other hand is also natural, derived from berries. Its combines use with DHA ensures a longer lasting tan thats less drying to teh skin and gives a deeper glow! Go again and check your fave self tanner for both these actives - if there not together, ditch it and get our Natural Self Tan Mousse
When you use a natural self tan product, you’re not just applying colour to your skin; you’re delivering a boost of nutrients - and we love this- multi-tasking products all the way for us!. Many natural ingredients are rich in antioxidants, which protect your skin from environmental damage and reduce signs of ageing. Ingredients like vitamin C found in our Kakadu plum in our self tan mouse and face tanning drops, green tea, and oils provide antioxidant benefits that keep your skin looking youthful and radiant.
The powerful antioxidants help improve skin elasticity and reduce the appearance of fine lines, making natural self-tanners a two-in-one win: a gorgeous glow with anti-aging benefits.
Knowing exactly what’s going onto your skin really does give peace of mind that is simply priceless. Many natural self tans avoid harmful chemicals like parabens, sulfates, and phthalates — ingredients that can be known to disrupt hormones and even negatively impact long-term health. By choosing products with simple, plant-based formulas, you’re giving your skin the care it deserves without any of the mystery.
For many of us, especially busy mums, simplicity in skincare self tanning is everything. With natural self-tanning products, you get to enjoy a glowing, safe, and effective tanning routine without worrying about synthetic ingredients. It’s skincare self tanning with integrity, and that’s something to really feel good about.
